A former walk-on at South Plains College, Taylor, Texas native and Olympic medalist Fred Kerley will return to the world stage at the 2024 Paris Olympics after qualifying in the men’s 100 meters at the US Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon.

Kerley posted a season-best 9.88, placing third and topping Christian Coleman for the final spot on the U.S. Olympic team. Kerley is no stranger to competing under the bright lights, as he previously won a silver medal in the 100 meters at the Tokyo Olympics.

Kerley will be joined in Paris by former Texan and six-time NJCAA All-American Vernon Norwood, who placed fourth in the men’s 400 meters on Monday night, posting a season-best 44.47. Norwood, who is also a four-time NCAA Champion at LSU and seven-time gold medalist on U.S. relay teams, will be part of the six-man pool for the 1600 relay.

A catalyst for the Texans in 2021, former SPC All-American and NJCAA National Champion Khaleb McRae, who now competes for the University of Alabama, placed seventh overall in the men’s 400-meter finals on Monday in 45.06. McRae was the NJCAA men’s 400-meter national champion in 2021, helping the Texans capture the 2021 outdoor title.

The Paris Olympics take place July 26 – August 11.
