Graveside service for Freddy Don Lewis, age 87 , of Morton, is scheduled for 10 a.m. ,Saturday, July 13, at Morton Memorial Cemetery Freddy passed away peacefully Thursday evening, June 26, in Morton, following a lengthy illness.

He was born August 5, 1936 in Oklahoma Flat, Texas to Roy and Geneva (Tatum) Lewis.

He married Margaret Homer in Pep, Texas on April 22, 1961. Freddy served in the United States Army from 1959 to 1964. He was a farmer, carpenter, and musician. Aside from his family, he had a passion for country music, particularly western swing. He played bass, guitar, and sang for numerous country western bands across Lubbock and the South Plains. He was recognized as a Hero of Western Swing Music by the Cowtown Society of Western Music in 2012.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Bob of Arkansas, Ray of Morton. Freddy is survived by his wife of 63 years, Margaret, sons James Roy (Gayla) and Bobby (Gina) and daughter Becky Chatfield (Miles) all of Lubbock, grandchildren Lindsey, Aaron, Dylan, Austin and Clayton and several great grandchildren, all of Lubbock.
