The Levelland Lobos sevenon- seven team competed in Lubbock at Coronado High School this past week where they competed in three games.

The Lobos played three games and won one against the New Home Leopards, 7-0.

Assistant Coach Tony Eggleston was pleased with the way the Lobos showed up and competed against the other teams in the heat after their workouts earlier in the day.

“They played very well. It was a hot one if you were out there and we felt every bit of that 100 degree weather on that turf,” said Eggleston. “I think it was a really good challenge for our kids, we had a morning workout that day, ran some bleachers and we really challenged them to come back out in that heat and see if they can compete with someone else.”

Coach Eggleston felt that the kids gave it their all and was proud of them. He highlighted the adjustments that were made on the fly when things needed to be changed. Looking at the performance as a whole, Coach Eggleston feels the group need to polish up on the plays and in the red zone.

The Lobos faced three different teams including Roosevelt, who they lost to 6-0, they fell to Lubbock High where they lost, 28-12.

The New Home win was the bounce back game for the Lobos. Having time to go against other competition, Coach Eggleston thinks it’s great for the team to go against other students from other teams to sharpen what they know instead of on each other all day in practice.

The Lobos had 19 kids show up to the seven-on-seven competition.

“I know last week when we played we ended up beating Roosevelt, 6-0, last time off of a hail-mary play at the very end,” explained Coach Egglston. “This time they had our number; they came out striking and it was a competitive game.”

The Lobos have one more seven-on-seven game, June 26, at 5 p.m. at the Lubbock High practice stadium.

“I think it’s good for them to see someone else other than the kids that they work out with throughout the summer,” explained Coach Eggleston. “So for us it’s really good for to get out of Levelland and test our talent at other schools and make us better.”

Coach Eggleston said the more they do this, the more they’re trying to work on their game and get the kids some exposure to play at the next level.

The Lobos have had a few people go out to their past games and cover them, but hopefully the more they play well, the more attention and looks they get from the upper level schools.

“We did two state-qualifiers, we did one in Dumas and we did the other at Coronado, so getting our kids some exposure is good as far as seeing other talents, seeing other coaches and being able to put the work that they’ve been able to put in, into an actual game scenario”, says Eggleston. “Even for our linemen we’ve hosted a lineman challenge, and got to see those guys that we might see during the season. It’s huge for our players to see over the summer that way they stay in competition. It keeps them working out, it keeps them young, stronger, and faster.”
