The Sundown Roughettes took a 6-1 lead in the bottom of the first inning and rode it to a 20-1run rule shortened home win over the Petersburg Lady Buffaloes in UIL high school softball action last Saturday.
Petersburg’s only score came in the top of the first inning on a one out single from Rhema Gunter that drove Bailey Norris home from second.
Sundown answered with six runs in the bottom of the first.
The Lady Buffaloes managed to load the bases in the top of the second with two outs with Gunter up, but this time Sundown pitcher Emery Jourdan struck Gunter out.
The Roughettes added two runs in the second, seven in the third and five in the fourth.
The Lady Buffaloes threatened one more time in the top of the third inning. Emery Jourdan issued a one out walk to Petersburg’s Ezeriah Nava.
Nava promptly stole second, then third base, but a strikeout from Aubrey Vasquez followed by popup from Elektra Monroe to Sundown shortstop Ella McCormick ended the inning with Nava stranded.
Ella McCormick had three runs and five RBIs on three hits. Daniella Reyna had three runs and two RBIs on two hits and a walk. Camry Jourdan had three runs and an RBI on a hit and a walk.
Emry Jourdan had three runs on two walks. Ashlyn Lara had two runs and an RBI on three hits.
Araceli Ibarra had a run and three RBIs on one hit. Cienna Jackson had a run and an RBI on with a hit. Erica Posadas had one run. Ariel Hernandez had a run and a walk.
Allie McCormick had a run and an RBI on a hit. Autumn Olivas had a run on a walk. Paola Huerta had a hit.
