Whitharral’s Shamadrick Weaver will be running track at West Texas A&M in the fall, but he wasn’t quite done with high school football.

Weaver was selected to play for the west in the Texas Six Man Coaches Association All-Star Division II football game at Memorial Stadium in Wichita falls last Saturday and he didn’t disappoint.

Weaver had two rushing and one passing touchdown in a 4920 win for the West. To put the icing on the cake, he was the offensive MVP and selected for a TSMCA $1,400 scholarship.

“It was one of the best games I have seen Shay play,” said Whitharral Head Football Coach Jeremy Holt.

It wasn’t all work, though, according to Weaver.

“It was a very fun experience,” he said.

He explained he already knew many of his teammates but the practices and time spent with them strengthened friendships as well as introducing him to some new friends.

“I made a lot of really good friends,” he said. “It was great to be able to practice and play with some people of the same age and skill level.”

Weaver was a standout on a 13-2 Whitharral team that made it to the regional semifinals before falling to the eventual state champion Benjamin Mustangs.

Weaver earned most valuable player honors in both UIL District 2-1A and Region 1.

His offensive production exceeded 3,000 yards for the second consecutive season. He had a 58 percent completion rate in passing, caught for an average of 17 yards per catch and rushed for an average of more than 11 yards per carry.

He averaged more than 19 yards per kick return and averaged almost 2 ½ tackles per game in addition to five interceptions on the season. Football is not the only sport for Weaver.

He received honorable mention honors in UIL District 71A basketball and was a state qualifier in track, finishing third in the 100 meter dash, third in the 200 meter, fourth in the long jump and sixth in the high jump.

He was also on the fifth place 4x100 team with Cason Wischkaemper, Nomar Gomez, Landon Lee Weaver plans to go to West Texas A&M and pursue a degree in kinesiology and run track.
