The Levelland Loboettes, ranked sixth in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches poll, dismantled the visiting Sweetwater Lady Mustangs 6120 in UIL district 5-4A high school girls’ basketball action last Friday.

Levelland jumped out to a 90 lead in the first three minutes of play on four points from Olivia Velardez and five from Emery Smith.

The Lady Mustangs didn’t score until the 3:51 mark and only managed a trey from Trinity McGee and a free-throw from Toreyna Saddler in the quarter.

The second quarter started with the Loboettes up 12-4.

They extended their lead to 15-4 on a trey from Smith and 17-4 on a basket from Destynii Jones.

Four more three-point shots over the quarter – two more from Smith and one each from Laci White and Angelica Gonzales – buried the Lady Mustangs 33-12 at half-time.

The third quarter saw the Loboettes outscore Sweetwater 11-6.

Levelland lit up the boards in the fourth, while Sweetwater was only able to get two freethrows for the period.

Smith led all scorers with 23 points.

The rest of the Loboette scoring was evenly distributed.

Jones had nine points. Velardez and Carly Tienda had six each. White and Madison Stafford had five each.

Angelica Gonzales had a trey. Ellie Phillips and Leilani Sanchez had two each.

The Loboettes host San Angelo Lakeview on Friday at 6:15 p.m.
