Delgado had an RBI on two hits. Kade Franklin had a hit and a walk. Bode Franklin had a walk.

The Ropes Eagles struggled through the first three batters before settling down and taking the visiting Seagraves Eagles 122 in a run rule shortened UIL high school baseball game last Saturday.

The ten run rule states that after five innings of play – or 4 ½ innings if the home team is ahead–and one team is ahead by 10 or more runs, the game is over.

Hunter Torres took the win for Ropes, allowing two runs on one hit with seven walks and 10 strikeouts over four innings.

Logan Delgado had a walk and two strikeouts in one inning of relief.

Torres opened with a walk to Dacian Wilborn, who stole second and then advanced to third on a passed ball.

The next batter, Raymond Rodriguez, also walked, then stole second. The third batter also walked to load the bases with no outs.

That prompted Coach Blake Jackson to call time and have a conference on the mound with the entire defense.

That’s when Ropes got a break of sorts. Landon Longoria took the first pitch offered and took it right to Bode Franklin in right field.

Ropes was still facing three runners on base, but they had an out. Torres struck the next two batters out swinging to get out of the inning.

Now it was the Ropes’ offense’ turn.

Mason Marmolejo took the first pitch for a single, then stole second on a pick-off attempt.

Stetson Wims singled on a grounder to center field, then advanced on the throw while Marmolejo scored for a 1-0 Ropes lead.

Torres grounded out on a fielders’ choice with Wims advancing to third. Logan Delgado grounded out to third for the second Ropes out.

Braxxin Partington took first after being hit by a pitch, then stole second. Kade Franklin walked to load the bases with two outs.

Nate Brooks singled to center, driving Wims and Partington home and advancing Kade Franklin to third.

Brady Bryan reached on an error by Wilborn at first, bringing Kade Franklin home.

Bode Franklin struck out looking to end the inning, but Ropes was firmly in the lead 4-0.

Torres had settled in by the top of the second inning. He struck out the side in 1-2-3 fashion.

Ropes solidified their lead with three runs in the bottom of the second inning and four in the bottom of the fourth.

Seagraves scored one run in the top of the third on a one out sacrifice from Noah Sarabia with the bases loaded that brought Raymond Rodriguez home.

The second Seagraves run came in the top of the fourth when Derey Rodriguez came home on a wild pitch with two outs and the bases loaded.
