A Levelland ISD school bus was involved in a fatal accident involving a pedestrian early Tuesday morning.

Lubbock police have identified the victim as Ginger Barnes, 52. Tiffany Taylor, public information officer for the Lubbock Police Department said no citations were issued and the incident is still under investigation. According to Lubbock police, the accident occurred on 19th Street at Alcove Avenue around 6:30 a.m. and a female subject was pronounced deceased.

Lubbock police began a crash investigation, reducing 19th Street to one lane.

Jeff Northern, Levelland ISD superintendent, said there were students on the bus but everyone was okay.

The students were en route to a tennis tournament in Snyder, Northern said.

All the students, along with the bus driver, are back in Levelland, Northern said.

“The bus driver is fine, all our folks are okay,” Northern said. “Unfortunately, there was a lady who lost her life. We are grateful all of our kids are okay, but our thoughts and prayers go out to those surrounding the deceased.”
