Levelland police are investigating two accidents involving pedestrians, one which resulted in a fatality Thursday night.

The first accident occurred Thursday night in the 600 block of Highway 114, at the intersection of Cedar Avenue. Howard Earl Thomas was transported by EMS to the emergency room at Covenant Hospital Levelland where he was pronounced deceased. Judge Nock ordered an autopsy that police said would be conducted Friday.

Levelland police are still investigating Thursday’s accident, in which the vehicle fled the scene.

Around 7:42 a.m. Friday, police responded to a second vehicle versus pedestrian accident near the intersection of 4th Street and College Avenue. Police have not released the name of the victim but the driver was identified as Ashley Lawless of Levelland.

In Friday’s accident, police said witnesses saw the victim enter the roadway before being struck by the vehicle driven by Lawless. Lawless’ vehicle was then struck by a second vehicle, driven by Juanita Reyes. The pedestrian was transported to a Lubbock hospital in critical condition, according to police.

Police said the drivers of the vehicles were not injured and were released from the scene.
